I am directed by Mr. Secretary Eden to transmit to
you herewith copy of a despatch to His Majesty's Ambassador
at Lisbon recording a conversation between Sir Alexander
Cadogan and the Portuguese Ambassador on the subject of the
forthcoming visit to Macao of the Acting Governor of Hong
Kong.
2. I am to suggest that, if the Secretary of State
for the Colonies sees no objection, Mr. N.L. Smith should
be informed by telegram of the approach made by the
Portuguese Ambassador here and instructed to afford such
assistance and advice as lies in his power to the Governor
of Macao.
The Under-Secretary of State,
Colonial Office.
I am,
Sir,
